Blogg assignment 2

Layout

I would say that the layout of this magazine is very simple in the sense that the main focus stays on the image/photograph/illustration and the text/font on the cover stays minimal.  The logo/title of the magazine is also simple and is always easily seen despite the other contents of the cover.  Every issue of the magazine seem to have a completely different idea and design approach.  I think this keeps people interested in the magazine and exposes readers to news on current design possibilities

Type

The type in this magazine seems to be very simple to keep emphasis on the main image/photograph/illustration.  The type doesn't overpower the imagery, even the type used for the logo is simple, its just modified a bit and used in an interesting way.

Content

The content of this magazine stretches from stories inspired by creativity to reviews of upcoming artists and designers and what inspire them to pursue the world of art and design.  The content is designed to keep people interested.

Style

I would say that the style of Enjin is modern yet simple but still interesting enough to appeal to all types of artists and designers.  The design style is "free" and on the "edge".  There is a certain design structure but every issue still has the potential of being unexpected and "new".

Genre

Blogg assignment 1

The International Typographic Style

Also known as Swiss Design, ITS originated from Switzerland and Germany in the 1950's.  With ITS a more universal approach to design was embraced an designers saw themselves as objective conduits for spreading important information between parts in the society.  ITS has characteristics like using a mathematically constructed grid, objective photography, not referring to any propaganda or commercial advertising, using sans-serif typography.
This design movement continues to influence design in the 21st Century.

Here are some of my own choices of  contemporary examples that contains International Typographic style elements...

Image 1- Microsoft Logo

Image 2- American Airlines Logo

Image 3- Gochisou Logo

Image 4- eNCA Logo

Image 5- THEGUILD.TV Logo

Image 6- Sony Playstation Logo

Image 7- Growth Trading Logo

Image 8- Ripe Films Logo

Image 9- Key Logic Systems Logo

Image 10- Adobe Logo

Image 11- IBM Logo

I chose five of these images to explain in more detail and to point out their elements of ITS (International Typographic Style)

  • Image 2 - Bold Sans-serif letters are used, limited use of color, it is a very striking logo that gets seen very easy and the message is sent across quickly, the image works very well vita the letters and together it forms one unified logo, some form of grid could have been used.
  • Image 4 - a Clear grid structure was used to create the shapes that form the image, it is a simple image created by allot of simple forms put together, limmited color use makes the image not that complicated, sans-serif type is placed in the middle of the logo.
  • Image 5 - There are signs of a grid structure being used to form the image created by combined lines and shapes, it stays a simple image even though it consists of allot of different shapes and lines, smile sans serif font is being used that doesn't overpower the image.
  • Image 9 - the image being used becomes a single letter and the forms part of the word, this way everything becomes more unified and interesting and the message gets received more easily, sans-serif font are used.
  • Image 11 - a Very clear grid structure was used tho create this logo, it is simple and easily read even though the letters are not whole.
